Visitors to the town cross the Gwydir River Bridge to enter Pallamallawa from the Gwydir Highway.
The name Pallamallawa is an aboriginal word that means Dry Waterhole.
The area is rich in agriculture with traditional aspects such as wheat, sheep and beef cattle. Cotton is now also found in the area and to the east is the Trawalla Pecan Nut farm
