Smokey Cape Lighthouse
Smokey Cape Lighthouse was opened in 1891 to protect sailors from the rocky coastline in the area.

Some examples of the type of coastline that created the problems are shown in photgraphs on this page, with the photographs taken from the Captain Cook Lookout alongside the lighthouse.

The lighthouse also served to direct sailors towards the entrance to the Macleay River, located just to the north of the lighthouse.
