RAILWAY INFORMATION

Local councils do have some information about communities located within their boundaries. You can access this information through the Local Council site through the link found on Local Information Section of this site.

The great attraction of Sawtell is the fact that it is a family holiday centre. Located in the heart of the Holiday Coast, just to the south of Coffs Harbour, the township boasts many beaches, a variety of fishing, sightseeing and relaxation opportunities. The town is an ideal stopping place whilst visiting the area.

The tree-lined streets add to the town's family atmosphere with a large range of shops, cafes, restaurants and other attractions. These include the local cinema which has been restored to its originally glory whilst showing a great range of current and 'old' movies.

The accommodation in Sawtell enables the township to cater for all walks of life, allowing people to relax and enjoy the wonderful climate and atmosphere.

The original aboriginal name for Sawtell was Bongil Bongil which is now the name of a section of the local wetlands. The original occupants of this area were the Kumbaingeri people.
