RAILWAY INFORMATION

Local councils do have some information about communities located within their boundaries. You can access this information through the Local Council site through the link found on Local Information Section of this site.

JENNINGS Tourism

The village of Jennings lies right on the Queensland border as a part of the twin villages of Jennings/Wallangara. While Wallangara is not strictly in New South Wales, the closeness of these two communities means they share many things in common such as one school (in NSW) and one Post Office (In Queensland). Its main claim to fame is as the one time border crossing for travellers on the New England Highway, where border checks for prohibited fruit and other agricultural checks are performed. It was also a changeover for the northern inland railway line where, due to track width variations between New South Wales and Queensland, trains had to interchange.

In recent times, the border between the two states in this area has been disputed, though no changes are planned at this time.

Close to the village are the Bald Rock National Park (NSW) and the Girraween National Park (Qld) and are readily accessible from Jennings.
