Goodooga is an Aboriginal word meaning "Yam".
Goodoga is a town to experience. Located on the plains approximately 70Km northwest of Lightning Ridge, Goodooga lies in the heart of some rich agricultural land and is a part of the Brewarrina Shire, the centre of which lies some 90 minutes away by road. It lies on the eastern bank of the Bokhara River and is very close (approx. 20Km) to the Queensland border. The township is made up largely of indigenous Australians with their unique culture.
Some 70Km west of Goodooga is Culgoa National Park, Weilmoringle, well worth the time to visit, to see this unique nature area.
Goodooga is rich in local history and the district is believed to have been one of the former hideouts of the legendary bushranger, Captain Thunderbolt.
Goodooga and it's surrounding areas are blessed with native fruits, vegetables and bush medicine. Information Tiger Cochrane 0268296008.
