the   glen
The Glen, situated at the northern entry to Uralla, is visible from the New England Highway, on the left as you enter Uralla from the north. Members of the local Landcare and the Uralla Shire Council have established an extensive garden of mainly native vegetation, complete with a pond and picnic site.
As the Glen grows, it will incorporate the Constellation of the South sculpture complex plus a number of other sculptural works and garden areas along paths which thread through the park.

The eight granite boulders have been delivered to the site and await installation.

They were excavated from Bundarra Road improvements near Yarrowyck, and each weighs several tons.

To date, the first two of eight stones have been installed.

Installation of the first stone

The Southern Cross stone is raised and slides into its one-metre deep foundation hole.

After the stone is cemented into place, here Charlie Rudd of the Phoenix Foundry washes off the dust and dirt from the millions of years the stone waited underground for its moment in human history.

Other Sculpture Projects for The Glen

In 1999 the Uralla Arts Council obtained an Australia Council grant to commission New Zealand sculptor, Chris Booth, to install a three-piece stone composition using local granite slabs. As an artist-in-residence, Chris completed his piece while living within the community, visiting local schools, giving public presentations, and visiting local artists. The granite for his piece was chosen from the Yarrowyck area, and the sculpture was completed in the Uralla Shire Council facility with the help of Council workers and equipment.
