DORRIGO: 8pm (2nd) : Olde Gazette Theatre 66571002 (bookings) 0401685492 (details : 'RITA' FURTHERS HER EDUCATION
After having received rave reviews from audiences in Coffs Harbour, Seacrest Productions is bringing the very popular 'Educating Rita' to the Old Gazette Theatre in Dorrigo for one weekend only, May 2 and 3. This is the Directorial finale in our area for Brian Fitzsimmons, who has been a driving force in theatre in Coffs Harbour since his arrival in 2000.
He has brought life to productions such as Sweet Charity, My Fair Lady, The Legend of King O'Malley, The Glass Menagerie, Blithe Spirit and, on the dinner theatre circuit, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Lipstick Dreams and the very popular Sylvia. Now he lends his talent to this fine production.
The play is set in northern England and is about a working class hairdresser who desires a "better way of living her life" and so enrols in an Open University course. Her tutor, Frank , an alcoholic self confessed "appalling teacher of appalling students" reluctantly takes her on and begins a learning experience of his own as the relationship between the two develops.
As with the popular movie starring Michael Caine and Julie Walters, this play will have you rolling around laughing one minute and empathising with these very likeable characters played by Amanda Scott, a Seacrest stalwart and Kalang's own Peter Nunn the next.
Don't miss this very impressive production.
Tickets are available from Hickory Health Foods, Dorrigo, phone: 66571002
