BELLBROOK LOCAL HISTORY

This page is designed to provide space for people of the Community to provide local history information about their community and to provide links to relevant history sites related to this community. The management of this site realises that this list may not be complete.

The village of Bellbrook was gazetted by its first postmaster, James Toose, in 1882. It's name, given to it by an earlier settler's wife (Caroline McMaugh), was because of the numbers of bellbirds that inhabited the area.

The entire village was registered by the National Trust in 1978 in order to preserve it's heritage value.

Australian Country Music Legend, Slim Dusty, was born just out of Bellbrook and his childhood home can be viewed by visitors.
