NATURAL TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

The region is renowned for its natural beauty with many large gorges and waterfalls to be found within an hours drive of Armidale.

Some of the better known attractions in this category are the WOLLOMOMBI FALLS, HILLGROVE GORGE, EBOR FALLS, NEW ENGLAND NATIONAL PARK, BAKERS CREEK FALLS, GARA GORGE and DANGARS GORGE.

HISTORICAL TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Historical attractions in and around Armidale include:
  • Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place

  • HERITAGE WALK: A 3km walk around the city centre with 29 points of historical interest to be seen.

  • HERITAGE DRIVE: A 25Km Drive around the historical sites of the city.

  • MUSEUMS: There are a number of different museums located throughout the city and in surrounding areas, many devoted to specific subjects.

  • HISTORICAL HOMESTEADS: These include SAUMAREZ HOMESTEAD, located just a few kilometres south of Armidale and BOOLOOMIMBAH, located in the grounds of the University of New England.

RURAL TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

The region is a very rich agricultural area and there are a number of farmstay places to visit as well as tours through the rural areas.

The Hillgrove Mine, east of Armidale is a popular visitors spot and, whilst in Hillgrove, visit the Hillgrove Rural Life and Industry Museum.
