INTRODUCTORY NOTES

EMUS & OSTRICHES has been developed by ArComPro in conjunction with the industry. In part, this development was brought about because the bulk of the software available on the market was imported and therefore did not totally meet the requirements of Australian producers, particularly in financial records where Australia has regulations peculiar to Australia.

The programme has a number of basic features, keeping full record of birds from laying through to disposal (by sale, death or other).

Details include full Identification records (micro chip number, registration number etc.), Hatch date, automatic age calculation, breeding partner, parentage, costs records, agistment records and animal management records (this includes weights, vet visits, inoculation and the like).

• THE BIRD MODULE: Which keeps records of the individual bird.

• THE INCUBATION MODULE: Where records of eggs under incubation and hatching records are kept. This includes up to 50 weighing records for each egg during incubation with automatic aging and weight loss/gain being a feature.

• THE REPORT MODULE: Allowing for a wide range of reports from summary to full length being produced.

• DISEASE ASSISTANCE MODULE: A specialist module that allows for data to be added, edited and utilised, relating to the diseases that are peculiar to the industry. Whilst at present no data is available, this may change in the future and registered purchasers of the software would be advised of these or third party data banks. The operations of this programme is that the operator can answer a series of questions related to symptoms and the programme will then advise of possible causes. This module is based on ArComPro's very successful DATAFIER programme.

Once the programme has been accessed, the operator is give the above choices.

1. ANIMAL DATA: This segment is the main section of the programme and contains all the data on the individual birds, including ANIMAL MANAGEMENT, AGISTMENT RECORDS and FINANCIAL RECORDS.

Data headings found in the main section are as follows:

Items marked with * can be transferred automatically from incubation data.

Items marked with + are automatically updated from other aspects of the programme.

Details of both LOCATION and OWNER are further expanded in sub-screens.

ANIMAL MANAGEMENT, AGISTMENT RECORDS and FINANCIAL RECORDS allow relevant information to each of these areas of management to be kept and regularly updated as required

2. EGG & INCUBATION DATA: This module is responsible for the records of all eggs in incubation. Facilities exist to delete hatched files as well as transfer the relevant data to a new file in the main module. The screen display for this module is a split single screen. The top section of the data contains the following information:

• WEIGHT ON INCUBATION
• ESTIMATED HATCH DATE

The data marked with a * can be automatically transferred to the bird file data.

The second part of the screen contains data pertaining to the weighing records of the eggs throughout incubation.

There are four pieces of data for each record in this section with two being entered by the operator (DATE and WEIGHT) and two being automatic (DAYS OLD and +-% WEIGHT).

3. DATA PRINTOUT: This module controls the report printing. There are 9 sub sections of reports with each one capable of producing reports ranging from summaries to full data. Further breakdown of these reports is also available

4. DISEASE ASSISTANCE MODULE: This module allows the operator to produce a data bank that will help them to determine possible causes for various symptoms displayed by birds when their health is not the best. This module is as good as the operator's own data bank of information on relevant diseases.

ArComPro does not market data for this module but is considering the possibility of third party data to recommend to operators.

IT MUST BE STRESSED THAT NO DISEASE DATA IS PROVIDED. IT IS THERE FOR THE OPERATOR TO USE WITH THEIR OWN INFORMATION AND DATA

5. ADJUST SYSTEM OPERANDS: Allows the operator to alter internal data. This data includes the financial codes used in main files.

6. RETURN TO SYSTEM: Simply returns the operator to the control system. In the case of stand alone programmes this will be to the Operating System. Operators with MODULAR SYSTEMS will be returned to the MASTER DIRECTORY.
