ABOUT DATAFIER.

DATAFIER is a programme designed for those people who need to keep large amounts of classification data and do searches for the purposes of identification.

The system can be set up to the requirements of the individual operator with data dimensions contained in a matrix of up to 128 x 48 items of classification.

DATAFIER can be used for Human Resource Management, Medicine, Industry, Environmental Data, Commerce, Electronics, Water Qualities, Soil Types, Plants, Animals, Birds, Animal Diseases, Plant Diseases, Bird Diseases, Crop Types, Fertilisers, Metal Fabrication, Insurance and any other area where the operator has a need to classify data in order to perform specific or general searches upon that data.

The operator is able to set up the classification data in up to 128 different categories. Each of these categories can then be given up to 48 sub-classifications. In addition, three lines are available for data identification. The default titles for these are name, scientific name and reference, however, these can be reassigned according to the data requirements of the operator.

A special feature of the data search mode in DATAFIER is the "wild card" factor. This means that if a specific classification area is irrelevant to the search being performed, the operator may choose the "wild card" so that when this aspect is reached in each item, the selection process will ignore this classification.

Once the data search has been completed, the selected items may be stored in one of nine storage files for future reference. The selected data can then be accessed to display selected files on either the screen or to a printer.

DATAFIER is a valuable tool for all those working with data, either in its raw state or as refined data. Very easy to operate.

The major up-grade with version 5 is the selectable expansion of the number of categories. The programme default will be 60 as with the earlier versions, however, from 16 to 128 categories will now be available by selection in steps of 8. Once set, the size will remain for that data system.

There is also facilities for a section of comments on each item. This is a basic word processor with facility for up to 40 lines of comments.

AND/OR search facilities have also be introduced in the new version. This is in addition to the DATAFIER SEARCH SYSTEM.

HOW THE PROGRAMME OPERATES.

Firstly, the programme is an operator operated data base system. That is the operator will need to add the required data for the particular use for which the programme has been purchased.

Whilst ArComPro has no immediate plans to market specific data banks for various uses, it is possible for third parties to provide data (either through ArComPro or by direct sale) for market use. It must be emphasised that such data will not be guaranteed by ArComPro.

DATA INSTALLATION.

The operator is able to insert data in two parts. The first section of the data is the IDENTIFIER. This consists of three lines of data, each of 60 characters in length. The default names for these three are as follows:

However, these names can be changed to suit each individual data bank, with heading names of maximum length of 16 characters.

The second part of the data is the core of the system and its operations. This is the DESCRIPTION DATA. On the main screen, the actual description utilised for each data entry, is displayed in a manner similar to the screen below.

This data is entered by a selection process established before any items are inserted.

ESTABLISHMENT OF DATA SELECTION.

The process used here is to set the descriptive parameters (16 to 128 in size in steps of 8 - also 60 which is the default setting and the setting of earlier versions) and then establish each of these descriptions. Under each description, the operator is able to select up to 48 variations (2 screens) of the description.

During the process of establishing the data bank, each DESCRIPTIVE CATEGORY is brought up to the screen and the operator selects the appropriate description (toggling between selection screens if necessary). Selection is by an alpha choice (upper or lower case) so care must be taken. Editing is available on the data. This selection character is most important for the search process for matching or selection uses these characters. It needs to be pointed out that not all 48 items need to be used. In each selection case, there is an automatically assigned character (not one of the 48) for use if a particular description is not applicable.

USING DATAFIER TO AID IN MANAGEMENT DECISIONS.

When the operator wishes to use the data for selection/identification of a particular item or purpose, the same selection criteria as is used in the establishment of data files is displayed. The operator selects the appropriate items as are required for the particular search.

When a particular DESCRIPTIVE CATEGORY is either not required or irrelevant to the particular search, the operator can select the "wildcard" for that category and the search will ignore what is contained in that category.

As a part of the choice process, the operator may also make an AND/OR choice so that either of the descriptions can be relevant to the search.

Once the selection criteria has been set (and checked if desired), the programme will then select all data items contained in the file and allow the operator either to review and/or print the selected choices.

Unlike previous additions, the selection data can be used again with editing of the criteria being available after each search.

HOW CAN THE PROGRAMME BE UTILISED IN THE MANAGEMENT PROCESS?

DATAFIER has been designed to be extremely flexible. Originally designed to enable fertiliser selection processes to be speeded up, the programme has a wide range of applications through all aspects of industry.

As an example of its use, the programme can be used to assist in personnel management in larger companies.

In this instance, the data files become individual employees, listing their various qualities, expertise, experience and qualifications. When a particular position becomes available within the company, the management can select the criteria required for that position and determine what current staff members (if any) are qualified to fill that position.

Similarly, the programme could be used for purposes of item/site identifications, selection of suitable materials/crops for specific purposes, as an item of research as well as a host of other possibilities.
